Somali Microfinance Forum is annual Microfinance Forum in Somalia which will draw the largest gathering of stakeholders from Somali’s microfinance sector for two days of dialogue, knowledge sharing and networking.
The notion behind conducting these forums is to create awareness of Microfinance for the benefit of Somali people. Somali Microfinance Forum is encouraging Microfinance practitioners, private Banks, Central Bank of Somalia, microfinance institutions, Mobile money operators, Money Transfer Companies, donors, NGOs, INGOs, agencies and Government Institutions by building up to acknowledgement of Microfinance System. It is providing a platform for dialogue between multilateral donor organizations and microfinance Networks to provide up to date knowledge of various aspects of Microfinance. This will promote entrepreneurship and SME financing especially in Somalia.
The primary objective of this conference to initiate a dialogue for concerted efforts among all relevant stakeholders, to identify the possible bottlenecks that exist in the industry that can possibly hinder the financial inclusion process and propose ideas to overcome it.
These are the reasons why these events are conducted in Somalia so that masses can enjoy its perquisites. State-of-art knowledge about Microfinance is shared in these forums through sessions, speeches and presentations designed under different tracks focused on active learning within the particular subject, participants can have a global perspective of microfinancing.
Poverty alleviation is an important objective for all nations on earth. Unfortunately, in many poor people in Somalia who are caught in the various cycle of abject poverty, lack of collateral, savings, education and credit necessary to engage in meaningful economics activities. Government policies, facing limited resources and competing ends are often inadequate in providing financial assistance to the poor financial institution do not offer loans to the destitute often because of high operating costs and those that do, The result is that economic growth remains concentrated in few urban areas, and it fails to benefit the poor, especially in rural areas.
